SUBJECT: EMERGENCY MEDICAID PROCEDURES FOR HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS
DISTRIBUTION: COUNTY DIRECTORS OF SOCIAL SERVICES
MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY STAFF
In response to the destruction resulting from Hurricane Katrina, North Carolina Medicaid is coordinating efforts to provide essential services for Medicaid recipients who have evacuated to North Carolina from Louisiana (LA), Mississippi (MS), and Alabama (AL).
This addendum provides procedures when the list of counties/parishes affected by Hurricane Katrina is changed. The FEMA list of counties/parishes designated to receive public assistance is provided to the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Refer to DSS Terminal Message #2005-115 concerning an updated list of Mississippi Counties Affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Also, refer to any future county/parish changes to the list issued through the Food Stamp Program when evaluating eligibility for emergency Medicaid following instructions in DMA Administrative Letter No. 11-05, Emergency Medicaid Procedures for Victims of Hurricane Katrina.
This policy is effective August 1, 2005 through November 30, 2005.
Should you encounter situations in which you need additional guidance, please contact your Medicaid Program Representative.
