Manual: Family and Children’s Medicaid
Change No: 19-05
To: County Directors of Social Services
Effective: July 1, 2005
Federal regulations require states to assure necessary transportation for Medicaid recipients to medical care that is a Medicaid covered service.
Requests for information and clarification on Medicaid Transportation from counties, recipients, and transportation providers have been steadily increasing. Guidelines for Medicaid transportation have been issued in administrative letters and subsequent interpretations. In an effort to provide the most current policy and guidance, DMA Administrative Letter 01-95, DMA Administrative Letter 01-95, Addendums 1 – 4 and all interpretations have been incorporated into manual policy, MA-3550, Medicaid Transportation.
In addition, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) established uniform requirements relating to safety and risk management for all DHHS programs. These requirements have been incorporated into this manual section.
This policy is effective July 1, 2005.
